hello everyone, i was just wondering if 1000 USD basic salary offer would be enough if i'll move to jakarta particularly in kelapa gading, I'm trying to look for a one-room affordable apartment (somewhat like a condotel) but reading the comments, gave me second thoughts if 1000 USD would be enough, though the company will also provide my meal and transpop allowance.

My husband and I are not US citizens, but have lived in the US for a few years together and have paid our taxes while living there. However, we moved from the US to Japan in mid July and I was wondering what we need to do about taxes this year? Are we expected to pay taxes for the half year we lived there? Could you advise us on what needs to be done from our front?

Hey Thanks for the info.

I currently live in Melbourne but I would like to move to Bali.

I work in the Oil and Gas Industry and actually work on rotation from New Zealand.... so I can live anywhere really. One reason I would like to move to Bali is to avoid the high tax rate I would pay in Australia (even though I spend more than half the year away and work in NZ).

If I permanently move to Bali, I do not have to pay Australian Tax. My question is that if I live in Bali but spend more than half the year away, am I required to pay tax in Bali?

Thanks,
Matt.

I have to say that this is a good overview of Croatia. I am Croatian living in USA and know what Americans might fell like in a country like Croatia. I think knowing some local language is the most important thing for anyone considering staying longer in Croatia. Croatians are more laid back than Americans and don't take business as seriously as in USA. That takes some time to adjust to. Local bureaucracy is generally incompetent and rude. You are lucky if you don't have to deal with them. If you do I recommend hiring a local lawyer to represent you for what ever needs you have with them. Croatia is not as cheap as it used to be, but is still much more reasonable than Italy as an example. last year I rented 2 rooms in a private home overlooking the beach in southern Dalmatia (Makarska) and paid 40 euros a night. In Italy I spent 1 night in a hotel room about 30 kilometers north of Venice and paid 175 euros a night. And than I paid 50 euros to park for 1 day near Venice. You won't find prices like these in Croatia, but it is getting pricier there as well. My advice is to negotiate prices directly with seller or landlord and don't be shy with asking for lower prices. That is normal and expected there. If you just pay whatever they ask for you will quickly realize that you are getting too high prices. Anyhow Croatia is very beautiful country to explore and has many opportunities that are OLD story here in USA. I plan to spend 2013 in Croatia to destras myself from crazy American lifestyle. Latest is I took 2 weeks of vacation at the end of this year. Booked a beach house in Florida, than my boss thels me that he doesn't have anyone to cover one of my projects so I have to have my cell phone on all the time during my "vacation" and carry my laptop with me. In Croatia this would be 100% unacceptable. In USA you just take it since your boss is workaholic lunatic and you will most likely be screwed up if you refuse. So much about cultural differences as well. Anyhow relax in Croatia, nobody will ask you carry your cell phone and laptop to your "vacation". And Adriatic coast is so beautiful!!!

Because of a high rate of unemployment US citizens are moving mostly in Gulf countries as they are totally tax free and they get highly paid jobs there.

I believe that it would be easier to start off working for a security company and then after you get some experience, start looking into getting the contract jobs
